THE FILMS
1. NOSFERATU (1922)
One of cinema’s original nightmares. The terrifying Count Orlok leaves his Transylvanian castle and brings death and plague with him in F.W. Murnau’s legendary silent vampire masterpiece. Public Domain Movies
2. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)
They’re coming to get you! A group of strangers barricades themselves inside a lonely farmhouse while an ever-growing army of flesh-eating dead surrounds them. George A. Romero’s groundbreaking horror classic changed zombie movies forever. Public Domain Movies
3. THE DEVIL BAT (1940)
Bela Lugosi is a brilliant scientist with a wonderfully wicked revenge plan: enormous killer bats trained to attack anyone wearing his specially created aftershave. Yes, really. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
4. HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1959)
Vincent Price invites five strangers to spend the night in a supposedly haunted mansion, with a cash prize waiting for anyone who survives until morning. Locked doors, ghosts, murder and Vincent Price. What could possibly go wrong?
5. THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE (1962)
After a horrific accident, an obsessed surgeon keeps his fiancée’s severed head alive while searching for a new body for her. Meanwhile, something monstrous is waiting behind a locked laboratory door.
6. CARNIVAL OF SOULS (1962)
After inexplicably surviving a terrible automobile accident, a young woman begins seeing a mysterious pale-faced stranger and feels herself irresistibly drawn toward an abandoned carnival pavilion. Dreamlike, eerie and genuinely unsettling. Public Domain Movies
7. DEMENTIA 13 (1963)
Before The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola directed this wonderfully twisted Gothic tale of an inheritance, a haunted family, a mysterious death and an axe murderer stalking the grounds of an Irish castle.
8. THE SKELETON DANCE (1929)
When midnight strikes, the graveyard comes alive! Skeletons rise from their graves for a wonderfully macabre musical dance through the cemetery. Five minutes of spooky, silly Halloween perfection.
9. PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1959)
Flying saucers! Aliens! Zombies! Bela Lugosi! Extraterrestrials resurrect Earth’s dead as part of their ninth attempt to stop humanity from destroying the universe. Ed Wood’s gloriously strange cult classic simply has to be experienced. Wikipedia
10. THE GHOUL (1933)
Boris Karloff stars as an eccentric Egyptologist whose obsession with an ancient jewel and the promise of resurrection sets off a wonderfully atmospheric tale of tombs, murder and things that refuse to stay buried.
11. THE WEREWOLF OF WASHINGTON (1973)
A Washington reporter returns from Hungary carrying one very inconvenient souvenir: a werewolf curse. Soon the nation’s capital has a hairy new problem roaming its corridors of power.
12. A BUCKET OF BLOOD (1959)
A painfully untalented beatnik accidentally discovers a horrifying shortcut to becoming a celebrated sculptor. Roger Corman mixes murder, art and pitch-black comedy into one deliciously bizarre cult favorite.
13. THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964)
Vincent Price may be humanity’s final survivor after a plague transforms the rest of the population into vampire-like creatures. Every day he hunts them. Every night they come looking for him.
14. ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES (1959)
Something enormous is lurking beneath the murky waters of the Florida Everglades, and it is hungry. Locals begin disappearing as gigantic bloodsucking creatures drag their victims into an underwater lair.
15. THE BAT (1959)
A mysterious killer known as “The Bat” is terrorizing an isolated mansion where stolen money may be hidden. Vincent Price and Agnes Moorehead lead this delicious old-fashioned mystery filled with murder, secret rooms and things creeping around in the dark.
16. THE TERROR (1963)
A young Jack Nicholson encounters a mysterious woman while traveling along a desolate coastline and follows her into the strange castle of Boris Karloff. Ghosts, madness, murder and Gothic atmosphere follow.
17. WHITE ZOMBIE (1932)
Bela Lugosi is the sinister Murder Legendre, master of an army of mindless zombies working in the shadows of Haiti. When a young woman becomes the object of another man’s obsession, Legendre offers a horrifying solution.
18. REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES (1936)
An expedition searching Cambodia for the secret behind a supernatural zombie army discovers that the power to control human minds may be far more dangerous than anyone imagined.
19. KING OF THE ZOMBIES (1941)
After their plane crashes on a mysterious Caribbean island, three travelers find themselves in a mansion where strange ceremonies, hypnotism and the walking dead suggest their host is hiding something very sinister.
20. MANIAC (1934)
A former vaudeville performer working for a mad scientist commits murder, assumes his boss’s identity and slowly descends into madness himself. Corpses, bizarre experiments, hallucinations and one VERY memorable cat make this one of the strangest horror curiosities of the 1930s.
