THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME (1932)
Directed by: Ernest B. Schoedsack and Irving Pichel
Starring: Joel McCrea, Fay Wray, Leslie Banks, Robert Armstrong, Noble Johnson
Shipwrecked on a remote island, big-game hunter Bob Rainsford believes he has found refuge in the lavish estate of the mysterious Count Zaroff. But he soon discovers that Zaroff has grown bored hunting animals and now pursues the ultimate prey—human beings. Based on Richard Connell's groundbreaking 1924 short story, The Most Dangerous Game is one of the earliest and most influential horror-thrillers ever made, combining suspense, adventure, and psychological terror in a story that has inspired generations of filmmakers.
Behind the Scenes
Based on Richard Connell's classic short story, one of the most frequently adapted stories in film history.
The film was shot on the very same jungle sets later used for King Kong (1933), with many of the same cast and crew, including producer Merian C. Cooper and director Ernest B. Schoedsack.
Fay Wray filmed The Most Dangerous Game by day while simultaneously shooting King Kong at night, often running through the same jungle set for both productions.
Leslie Banks' chilling performance as Count Zaroff helped establish the sophisticated, charismatic movie villain that would influence countless thrillers for decades.
Despite its modest budget, the film was a box-office success and remains one of the defining classics of pre-Code Hollywood.
